The new Ford F-450 Super Duty remains one of the strongest heavy-duty pickup trucks available today, and the new Ford F-450 Chassis Cab is a force to be reckoned with in its own right! We’ve covered the 2021 Ford F-450 specs in detail, so you can choose the perfect model for your Chicago and Madison job sites.

Ready to get started? Explore F-450 towing capacities, payload limits, weight ratings, gear ratios, and engine specs before you get behind the wheel.

2021 Ford F-450 Specs: Maximum Capacities

Whether you’re interested in towing or hauling, you can trust the 2021 Ford F-450 specs to help you power through almost any challenge. Maximum F-450 towing capacities and F-450 payload limits will vary depending on the body style and towing setup that you’ve chosen to use, but we’ve covered every angle below.

Ford F-450 Towing Capacity: Super Duty and Chassis Cab Models

  • F-450 Super Duty Towing Capacity (Conventional Trailer): Up to 24,200 pounds
  • F-450 Super Duty Towing Capacity (Gooseneck/5th-Wheel Trailer): Tow up to 37,000 pounds
  • F-450 Chassis Cab Towing Capacity (Conventional Trailer): Up to 17,500 pounds
  • F-450 Chassis Cab Towing Capacity (Gooseneck/5th-Wheel Trailer): Up to 26,600 pounds

Ford F-450 Payload Capacity: Super Duty and Chassis Cab Models

  • F-450 Payload Capacity (Super Duty): Up to 6,210 pounds
  • F-450 Payload Capacity (Chassis Cab): Up to 9,850 pounds

Ford F-450 GVWR: Super Duty and Chassis Cab Models

The F-450 weight varies depending on your chosen configuration. F-450 Super Duty trucks can weigh between 7,712 pounds and 8,587 pounds unladen. Curb weight for F-450 Chassis Cab models ranges from 6,956 pounds to 8,222 pounds. Now, check your maximum gross vehicle weight rating to see how much weight your axles can handle in total:

  • F-450 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (Super Duty): Up to 14,000 pounds
  • F-450 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (Chassis Cab): Up to 16,500 pounds

Unlike your GVWR, maximum Gross Combined Weight Ratings (GCWR) are outlined by engine and body style, not by configuration:

  • The Ford Super Duty has a maximum GCWR of 45,300 with the 6.7L V8 Turbo Diesel.
  • The Ford Chassis Cab offers a GCWR of 43,000 pounds with the diesel engine, or up to 30,000 pounds with the V8 gas engine.

Since these specs don’t necessarily correspond to the F-450 configurations, you’ll want to review your owner’s manual carefully. If you think that a larger Chassis Cab could be more useful when you’re working in Milwaukee or Waukesha, compare the 2021 F-450 vs. F-550 to learn more about your options.
