2021 Ford F-550 XLT Chassis Cab at a job site
The 2021 Ford F-550 specs have made this model one of the standout options in the market for Chassis Cab trucks — but would you really expect anything less from a Ford? Whether you’re interested in hauling, towing, or taking on some other challenge, you’ll love what this model can do. Take a closer look at the Ford F-550 GVWR, payload capacity, engines, towing capacity, and more by reading on.

2021 Ford F-550 GVWR

The 2021 Ford F-550 GVWR is determined by the payload package you select. Four options are available, offering upper limits of 17,500 pounds, 18,000 pounds, 19,000 pounds, and 19,500 pounds, respectively.

2021 Ford F-550 Payload Capacity

Your choice of payload package will determine your Gross Vehicle Weight Rating — see above. But if your GVWR tells you how much your vehicle and your cargo can weigh in total, how much weight can you actually haul? This will vary depending on several factors, including your chosen vehicle’s weight. However, the 2021 Ford F-550 payload capacity tops out at 12,750 pounds, so there’s almost certainly a model that meets your needs.

As we alluded to above, your maximum payload will be partially determined by your chosen cab and wheelbase. Here’s a brief overview of your options:

F-550 (Regular Cab)

  • 145-inch wheelbase; 60 inches, cab to axle
  • 169-inch wheelbase; 84 inches, cab to axle
  • 193-inch wheelbase; 108 inches, cab to axle
  • 205-inch wheelbase; 120 inches, cab to axle
F-550 (SuperCab)

  • 167.5-inch wheelbase; 60 inches, cab to axle
  • 191.5-inch wheelbase; 84 inches, cab to axle
F-550 (CrewCab)

  • 179.4-inch wheelbase; 60 inches, cab to axle
  • 203.4-inch wheelbase; 84 inches, cab to axle

If you’re hoping to maximize your F-550 payload limits to conquer your Waukesha workloads, opt for a model with the Regular Cab and choose either the 169-inch or the 193-inch wheelbase. Make sure to opt for the most impressive payload package, too!

2021 Ford F-550 Specs: Power and Torque Ratings

With either of the two engine options, the 2021 Ford F-550 specs are practically guaranteed to impress. Together with this Chassis Cab truck’s sturdy chassis, they form the foundation of everything it can do:

  • 7.3L V8: 350 horsepower and 468 lb-ft of torque
  • 6.7L V8 Diesel: 330 horsepower and 825 lb-ft of torque

With either option, your engine will come mated to a TorqShift® 10-Speed SelectShift® Automatic transmission.

The Ford F-550 towing capacity varies from configuration to configuration. In the first place, it’s important to know your Gross Combined Weight Rating — the total amount of weight that your vehicle can manage — including weight that’s being pulled behind you. This metric never exceeds 30,000 pounds on models with the 7.3L V8, and it never exceeds 43,000 pounds on models with the diesel engine.

2021 F-550 Towing Capacity

Towing capacity is slightly more straightforward. Although this can also vary from configuration to configuration, the F-550 can reach a conventional towing limit of 18,500 pounds with either engine. If you switch to gooseneck or 5th-wheel towing, you’ll be able to haul up to 31,600 pounds with the V8 diesel, or up to 20,400 pounds with the V8 gas.
