2022 Ford Chassis Cab Performance: A Cut Above the Rest

Ford Super Duty Chassis Cab Performance Highlights

Payload Capacity

With its stronger frame and lighter body, the new Chassis Cab offers a higher-than-ever, 15,090-pound maximum rating in its F-600 configuration. With the F-550, you get a Best-in-Class payload rating of up to 12,750 pounds.

Towing Capacity

The impressive 2022 Ford Chassis Cab performance isn't limited to hauling. In fact, it can tow up to an exceptional 34,500 pounds—up from previous years.

Best-in-Class Gross Combination Weight Rating

Combine cutting-edge engineering with lightweight components and you have the highest GCWR of any Class 3 – 5 chassis cab available: 43,000 pounds. Even with the F-550, you'll have a GCWR of up to 40,000 pounds.

Best-in-Class Front Gross Axle Weight Rating

You can upfit bigger and better thanks to a maximum front gross axle weight rating of 7,500 pounds. This capacity is standard for the F-600, and optional for the F-550.

The New Ford Chassis Cab Has Power to Spare

The new Ford Chassis Cab is made from a revolutionary blend of high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy. It’s lighter than steel, but still exceptionally strong. The fully boxed under-cab and C-channel aft-of-cab frame uses 95 percent high-strength steel with up to 10 crossmembers, and torsional rigidity is eight times greater than in the precious generation.

Since the latest Ford Chassis Cab is so strong, towing and payload ratings are beyond comparison. Better yet, the following parts and components have been beefed up in line with the model’s greater strength and capability:

  • Axles
  • Suspension
  • Brakes
  • Driveline
  • Transfer Case

The latest 4-wheel anti-lock brakes are larger than ever before and feature the largest rotors in their class. Expect sure-fire stopping power regardless of your load.

All that capability is powered by one of the following three engine setups:

  • 6.7L POWER STROKE TURBO DIESEL V8: Delivering up to 330 hp and 825 lb-ft of torque, the 6.7L engine Power Stroke® diesel engine is a force to be reckoned with on any job site. It boasts a unique inverse-flow configuration and large single turbocharger, plus a compacted graphite engine block that’s stronger yet lighter than cast iron.
  • 7.3L OHV PFI Gas V8 Engine: This 7.3L behemoth is the biggest gas V8, with the most torque, available in a Class 3 – 5 Chassis Cab truck today! It delivers 335 hp and 468 lb-ft of torque.
  • 6.2L Flex Fuel GAS V8: The standard engine in F-350 models delivers up to 385 horsepower and up to 430 lb-ft of torque. It’s all down to innovative tuning and camshaft configurations designed to increase peak torque at lower rpm.

Available features include:

  • Smart Diesel Engine Exhaust Braking: When activated, the engine brake restricts exhaust flow from the turbocharger to create back pressure and slow the vehicle. That means greater downhill control and reduced wear. Three settings are available: On, Off, and Auto.
  • Class-Exclusive Live-Drive PTO: Lets you connect directly to the engine crank shaft to power your power takeoff (PTO) provision, including aftermarket snowplows, pumps, and compressors. The split-shaft capability allows multiple accessories to operate at once.
  • TorqShift® 10-Speed SelectShift® Automatic: Precision-designed to handle high-torque performance, TorqShift® transmissions use large, strong gears to cope with the demands of towing around Milwaukee or transporting hefty loads between Madison and Green Bay. In previous years, Ford Chassis Cab models were offered with a 6-speed transmission; this relatively new addition can make short work of even tougher jobs.
